History Behind Janmashtami
According to Hindu mythology, Shree Krishna was the eighth child of his mother, Devki, so it’s marked on the eighth day. The cunning and evil king of Mathura wanted to imperialize his empire, so he married his daughter, Devki to Vasudev. After the wedding, King Kansa decided to shower the couple with a lot of expensive gifts to gain the trust of Vasudev.
Kansa’s destiny was already decided, a voice from heaven booms that his evil is soon going to end with his sister’s eighth child. The eighth child will soon end all the brutality of the KIng Kansa. After he got to know that he would be killed by Devaki’s eighth child, he wanted to kill her sister.
Vasudev promised him that they both will give their child to him if he spares his wife’s life. To this suggestion, he agreed and one day he killed all the six children but when Devaki was pregnant with the seventh child, unusual things started to happen. The seventh child transferred from Devaki’s womb to Rohini’s womb, Vasudeva’s first wife. This way Vasudev’s seventh child remains safe from the cruelty of King Kansa.
Now King Kansa was very anxious to kill the eighth children but again through god’s divine power Lord Vishnu appeared in the cell and told the couple that their eighth child was himself the incarnation of Vishnu and will become the cause of death for Kansa. That night, Vishnu perishes the locks and puts guards to sleep. He also gave Vasudev some instructions and then disappeared.
Vasudev followed the instructions and left the palace, crossing the river Yamuna into the village of Gokul. He exchanged the baby with the newborn girl of Nanada and his wife Yashodha. So, at last in this way, Krishna was brought up in Nanda and Yashoda’s house. Finally, he killed his maternal uncle Kansa and relieved the Mathura people from his cruelty.
