The history behind Narasimha Jayanti

Narasimha was the 4th incarnation of Lord Vishnu as the name says, he was a half human and half lion. He appeared from a pillar to kill a demon king Hiranyakashyap, who tried to kill his own son Prahlad many times. It is said that Prahlad son of king Hiranyakashyap was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu and shared a special bond with him. When the king knew about this, he tried killing his own son.

Hiranyakashyap has a special benediction, which he got from Lord Brahma which says, he could not be killed from any weapon, neither humans nor animals could kill him. Narasimha who was half lion and half human killed him with his nails, without violating any conditions.
