Raksha Bandhan 2022 Date- 11 August

How is Raksha Bandhan celebrated?

This is the festival of sharing bonds between brother and sister. On this day. Sisters tie a rakhi for Raksha sutra on their brother’s wrist. Brothers also vow to always protect her and her sisters pray for their longevity and happiness.

The rakhi is a thread of good wishes and sacred feelings tied by a sister to protect her brother from evil eyes and negative vibes.

Legend Behind Raksha Bandhan

As per Hindu mythology, Draupadi of The great Indian Epic, Mahabharat, had torn the corner of her saree and tied on Lord Krishna’s wrist from bleeding. Thus, this shows a special bond between sister and brother and how a brother vow to always stand beside her in case of problems.

The general meaning of Raksha Bandhan is protection, in this way it is believed that rakhi makes their relationship stronger and blooms their love and togetherness. It is also believed that Brahmins change their sacred thread (janoi) toRakshaBandhanRakshaBandhan, Bandhan Ambiance again engages in reading scriptures.

Rabindra Nath Tagore also started this tradition during the partition of Bengal in 1905. He encouraged Hindu as well as Muslim women to tie rakhi on men’s wrists from other communities. This was used as a weapon to suppress the divide and rule idea of Britishers.

The propitious time for tying Raksha sutra or rakhi is during the afternoons. It can also be tied during the pradosh period that starts at sunset and lasts up to 96 minutes after it. Tying of rakhi should not take place during the Bhadrapada, as some negative energies reside during this time.
