The festival of Dussehra marks the victory of truth over untruth and victory of good over evil forces. Dussehra is also known as Vijayadashami. Dussehra is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm every year on the tenth day of the month of Ashwin. In some states, there is also a tradition of burning Ravana on the day of Vijayadashami. According to the legend, on this day Lord Rama killed the king of Lanka, Ravana. This day is called Vijayadashami because of Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana. According to another legend,  Goddess Durga also killed Mahishasura on this day.

Vijayadashami.

Dussehra Kab hai- Legend Behind Dussehra

According to religious beliefs, there was a demon named Mahishasura who was blessed by Brahma that no person on earth could kill him. Due to this blessing, he created an outcry in the three worlds. To stop its increasing sins, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva combined their power to create Maa Durga. Maa Durga fought Mahishasura for nine days and on the tenth day, Maa Durga killed this demon. as a result of which people

Got rid of this demon and there was a mood of joy all around. Because Maa Durga was victorious on the tenth day, this day was celebrated as Dussehra or Vijayadashami.

One of the reasons behind celebrating Dussehra is that on this day Lord Rama killed the tyrant Ravana. It is said that before killing Ravana, Lord Rama worshiped all the nine forms of the goddess with full rituals, and with the blessings of the mother, he was victorious on the tenth day.

Due to which this festival of victory of religion over Ardham is celebrated with great enthusiasm to date. A program called Ravana Dahan is organized in many states of India, where the idol of Ravana is burnt with firecrackers.

To conclude, Vijayadashami i.e. Dussehra is celebrated on the next day after the end of Navratri. This festival is directly related to Maa Durga. According to religious beliefs, Lord Rama killed Ravana on this day. Along with this, it is also said that before killing Ravana, he worshiped Mother Durga for 9 days on the beach, and then on the tenth day, he got the victory. There is also a belief that Maa Durga killed the demon Mahishasura after a battle of nine nights and ten days.
